Our story was published in Lietuvos Rytas! We have been lucky enough to establish the only rapeseed oil production facility in Lithuania that offers rapeseed oil – produced locally from locally grown raw materials – to the country’s major shopping centres, i.e. create a path from our fields directly to your table. Up until now, there have not been any rapeseed oils originating from Lithuania on the shelves of our major retail chains. We invite you to read the article that was published on Lietuvos Rytas website and get to know us better!
This year, EKKO LT has opened a production facility in Zarasai, where they produce the company’s ecologic rapeseed oil. The young company has a clear business vision – to make completely ecologic products in a sustainable and environment-friendly way. Having started their cooperation with the Lithuanian retail chain Maxima, the producers of ecologic rapeseed oil were quick to find out that the local market is ready for high-quality sustainable food products.
‘Our oil, cold-pressed from rape plants grown right here in the fields of Lithuania, is as good as any first-class olive oil, and sometimes even better due to its certain unique qualities. Our main focus is on producing 100 percent ecologic products without doing any harm to the environment. Due to this, we follow the strictest oil production standards there are, and use premium cold-pressing technologies that allow us to maintain all valuable qualities of rapeseed oil, its inherent micronutrients and vitamins,’ thrilled to see the Lithuanian oils EKKO and Raudondvaris on the shelves of MAXIMA stores, claims Karolis Trimonis, Head of Business Development at EKKO LT.
More information about the production of this ecologic rapeseed oil in Zarasai is presented in the video.
Commitment to Zarasai region and Zero Waste Policy
K.. Trimonis emphasises that the company only uses local raw materials – premium rapeseeds that have been sustainably grown in thoroughly-checked ecologic farms of Lithuania. Moreover, EKKO LT pursues the so called zero waste policy, which means that none of primary raw materials are wasted or discarded.
‘Our production facility is in Zarasai, a town surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful nature. For us, this presents a commitment to partake in securing this beauty to the best of our abilities. After cold pressing, ecologically-grown rapeseeds are used to produce four top-quality products, ready for consumption: unrefined rapeseed oil, oilcake, meal and protein powder. Our production process enables us to ensure that all of this happens in an entirely environment-friendly manner,’ K. Trimonis claims.
EKKO LT’s strategic commitment to ecology is also proven by an EkoAgros ecologic food production certificate, issued to the company.
Exceptional Addition to a Healthy Diet
The oil produced in Zarasai has been formally certified as being a 100-percent ecologic product with exceptionally pure ingredients. The oil, which is pressed from premium ecologically-grown rapeseeds, is perfectly suitable for omnivores and vegetarians as well as vegans.
‘Most probably, you can find a bottle of oil, tucked away in a kitchen cabinet in each home. As many families use this product on a daily basis – if chosen wisely – it can be extremely beneficial. Our ecologic cold-pressed rapeseed oil is great while cooking various hot and cold dishes – whether you want to bake or fry something, make a soup, use it as a salad dressing or cook many other meals, as long as the cooking temperature doesn’t exceed 190 degrees,’ EKKO LT Business Development Head K. Trimonis explains.
He states that the cold-pressing production process enables to maintain all amazing nutrients inside the rapeseed. The ecologic cold-pressed rapeseed oil is rich in omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids that promote human health. Furthermore, the oil is a natural source of vitamins E and K.
Finding a Niche with Maxima
Even though the majority of EKKO LT products are exported abroad, K. Trimonis claims that the company could not be happier that high-quality ecologic products, made locally from Lithuanian raw materials, are becoming more and more popular among Lithuanian consumers.
K.Trimonis, the Business Development Head at EKKO LT, says that the partnership with the Lithuanian retail chain Maxima has enabled them to find and occupy their niche and present their exceptional rapeseed oil to consumers all over the country. ‘The collaboration with Maxima is accompanied by their strong support, as our partner is sincerely interested in providing their customers with healthier, ecologic and health-promoting products. The purposeful development of the wide range of products they offer educates their clientele and encourages them to be more mindful of their own health. In its turn, this provides us with new opportunities,’ K. Trimonis explains.
‘We’re always open to start new partnerships and support new Lithuanian businesses, their fresh initiatives and interesting ideas, and share our own insight and experience. Lately, the interest of our customers in ecologic products has been growing, so we are happy to present unique Lithuanian products on the shelves of Maxima stores across the country,’ Ernesta Dapkienė, Head of Communication and Brand Department at Maxima LT, claims.
